Wat Nong Wang
Down at the south end of the lake, Wat Nong Wang is Khon Kaen city’s biggest, most important temple, and also its one must-see tourist attraction. It was founded in 1789, the same year the city was settled. It became a royal temple in 1984. It is ordinary in most regards, except for the stunning nine-story Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon, a stupa unlike any other in Thailand. The walkway around each floor of the stupa has mosaic animals and zodiac signs.

It is located in Suan Kwang Mountain, covering an area of over 7,360,000 square meters, which can be divided into different animal exhibits; deer, African animals, foreign ungulate animals, Camels and kangaroos. The zoo provides a natural classroom to build awareness a part of its youth for protection wildlife and plants. The sky bridge across the Africa Zone is called "Sky Walk” where tourists can watch the animals in bird eye views. It is fun and educating for everyone in the family.

Ubolratana Dam
Ubolratana Dam, though 60 km out of Khon Kaen city but worth visiting. It is the first major dams built under the Royal Patronage. Ubolratana dam plays significant roles in generating electricity, fishery, irrigation, flood prevention, transportation, and recreation for the people of Khon Kaen. The beautiful lake over the dam is a nice area for relaxing as restaurants, accommodation, park, and boat rental service and golf course are available. Nearby excursions include Hin Chang Si viewpoint, rafting, Wat Phra Phutthabat Phu Pan Kham (temple with Buddha’s Foot Print).
