Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden
An hour’s drive from the city of Chiang Rai, Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden is a small part of the larger Doi Tung Development Projects. The gardens are located on the Doi Tung mountain range, at the Golden Triangle area. Not so long ago the area was known for its prosperous opium industry, whereas, now it is a lovely, blossoming site. The lush gardens contain a variety of flowers and plants. At the heart of the garden, there is a very special statue named ‘Continuity’. It symbolizes the continuity and success of the endeavors that were put into developing the area. Visitors can go for a Tree Top Walk to see the jungle from a bird’s-eye view. There are also rope bridges that take visitors above areas of the forest that overlook coffee and seasonal trees, the dam and distant mountains, and a vetiver grass plantation.

Wat Rong Khun
Wat Rong Khun, perhaps better known to foreigners as the White Temple, is an art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple. Chalermchai Kositpipat, a well-known Thai artist, designed and constructed this ornately-decorated masterpiece. Rather than using traditional characters, Chalermchai used icons from modern culture, such as spaceships, superman, and even Neo from the movie Matrix to tell the stories of the Buddha’s life and his teachings on the murals, creating a rather striking and lasting impression upon visitors. Wat Rong Khun is one of the most-visited attractions in Chiang Rai.
